Barbara “Babs” Reed

Barbara “Babs” Reed, 85 of Baldwin City passed away on September 1, 2014 at Baldwin Healthcare. Barbara was born April 26, 1929 in Dothan, Alabama the daughter of William Curtis and Thelma (Williams) Moreland.
Having moved to the Baldwin community in 1986, she was the House-mom at the Kappa Sigma Fraternity from 1986-1992, she was also the House-mom at Phi Mu Sorority from 1992-1998.
Babs was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Baldwin City, PEO International, Baldwin City, and First United Methodist Church of Baldwin City. She always had music on every day in the house. She loved to read, sewing, cross stich and making clothes for the kids.
Babs was united in marriage with Hugh Reed on April 6, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia. They shared 27 years together before he preceded her in passing on January 30, 1984.
Babs also is preceded in death by her parents. She also left behind her cat Toshi whom she adored.
Surviving immediate family include her daughters: two daughters Sue Reed of Grandview, MO, and Marty Mehrwin of Olathe, KS; three sons Tim Reed of Newington, CT, Steve Reed of Baldwin City, KS, and Cary Reed of Hudson, Ohio; 5 grandsons Mike Mehrwin, Shawn Reed, Drew Elsasser, C.J. Reed and Hunter Reed; 2 granddaughters Stephanie Vermilye and Beth Nugent; and 9 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, Baldwin City.
