Richard Greenway

Richard Terry Greenway, Sr. Tonganoxie, formerly of Hutchinson, KS passed away April 22, 2020, at age 72. He died at home with his devoted wife and children beside him. He was born April 4th, 1948 in Alma, Michigan, son of Charles and Florence (Potter) Greenway. Richard graduated from Alma High School, class of 1966. In 1966, Richard joined the United States Army and after a tour in Korea he was stationed in Ft. Riley, KS where he met his wife of 51 years. Richard and his family lived in Hutchinson, KS from 1977 until he and his wife relocated to Tonganoxie in 1994. Richard elected to retire early from Evergy (formerly KPL/Westar) in 2002. In 2004, he took a job in the buildings and grounds department through the BasehorLinwood school district USD 458. He began working at JR’s liquor store in Tonganoxie in 2007 and he retired for the second and final time from JR’s in 2015. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all of their activities, working in his yard, drinking Budweiser on his tailgate in his driveway, playing pool, going to casinos, and socializing with people. He never knew a stranger and had a unique and recognizable bellowing laugh. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carol Louise (Brunner) Greenway of the home. Son, Richard Terry Greenway, Jr. (Candi) of Lewisville, Texas, daughter, Rhonda (Greenway) Overacker (Greg) of Tonganoxie, Kansas, three grandchildren, Gabrielle Greenway of Trevor, Wisconsin, Griffin and Carly Overacker of Tonganoxie, Kansas and one great¬grand¬daughter, Isabella Grace Ruggiero of Trevor, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his first grandson, Casey James Overacker, his mother, father, brothers, Philip, Nelson, John, Chuck, Jack and sister Joanne. Cremation has taken place at his request.
A celebration of life party will take place in Tonganoxie after the COVID¬19 restrictions are lifted – date to be determined. For those who wish, please consider a memorial contribution to St. Luke’s Home Care and Hospice – St. Luke’s Foundation 901 E. 104th Street #10
