Shirley Walbridge

Shirley Mae Walbridge, 84, of McLouth, KS died Sunday, September 27, 2020 at the Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. She was born June 22, 1936 at the farm north of Tonganoxie, Kansas.
Daughter of Orville Damon Freeman and Opal Riggs Freeman.
Graduated from Tonganoxie High School Class of 1954. Shirley worked at Her mom’s cafe (Opal’s Cafe) in Tonganoxie through High School, In Kansas City at Macy’s in the book keeping department, She worked at an Insurance Agency in Kansas City, drove a school bus along with her friends for USD 342 school district, she was an Administrative Assistant at the Joplin Nursing Home in McLouth and then in the Jefferson County Clerk’s office and serving as the County Clerk in 1983 ¬ retiring in 2000 after 17 years.
She married Maurice Lee Walbridge in 1962 at Tonganoxie after he returned from the Army serving in Germany. Shirley loved attending all her Children, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren’s events.
She was an active member of the McLouth United Methodist Church, serving as church treasurer for years. She was the McLouth Crackerjacks 4¬H community leader and a County Clothing leader. Shirley loved bowling and bowled two leagues a week for many years and served as the Director of OWBA (Oskaloosa Women’s Bowling Association). She was an active member of the Town & Country (EHU) Women’s Club and also served as JF. Co. Republican Committee Chairperson.
Survivors include four children, Gary (Ellen) Walbridge, Overland Park, KS; Vicki Starcher, Tonganoxie, KS; Kenny (Vicki) Walbridge, Perry, KS; and Doug (Sandy) Walbridge, McLouth, KS. 9 Grandchildren, and 9 Great¬Grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters: David (Virginia) Freeman, Topeka, KS; Larry Freeman, Huston, TX; Karen Prnka, Alvin, TX. She was preceded in death by her brother Bo Freeman and sister JoAnn Wing and son¬in¬law Ron Starcher.
Services will be 10:30AM Thursday at the McLouth United Methodist Church. Visitation Wednesday, September 30, 2020 from 6¬8:00pm at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa, KS.
