DIANE REBECCA WHITAKER EBBERT

Diane Rebecca Whitaker Ebbert, aged 66, of Tonganoxie, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the Health Care Resort of Leawood. She was born on June 27, 1956, in Washington, Kansas, the cherished daughter of Warren and Mary Katherine (Ellis) Whitaker.

After high school, Diane attended Wichita State University. In 1978, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Diane met and fell in love with Joe Ebbert during her time at WSU, and they were married on October 28, 1978, in Washington, Kansas.

She obtained a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas in 1989, followed by a Master’s Certificate for Family Nurse Practitioner from WSU in 1995 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Kansas in May 2007. Diane served as an Assistant Professor and Director of Advanced Practice Programs at the University of Kansas School of Nursing.

Diane is survived by her husband Joe of the home, her son Grant Ebbert of Tonganoxie, her daughters Megan Ebbert of Tonganoxie and Kate (Jackson) Dwyer of Shawnee, and her brother Greg (Carol) Whitaker of Tonganoxie.

A funeral service in honor of Diane’s remarkable life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the First Congregational Church of Tonganoxie, located at 303 E 4th Street, Tonganoxie, KS 66086. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place at 9 am. Diane will be laid to rest at Hubbel Hill Cemetery in Tonganoxie following the service.
