CHARLES JULIUS DUNIVAN
November 6, 1936 to May 6, 2023
Charles was born November 6, 1936 in Kansas City, MO to Charles and Martha Dunivan of Linwood, KS. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Dunivan and Martha Dunivan, one brother Denny Dunivan, one sister Geraldine Deay, and one daughter-in-law Kimberly Dunivan.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Dunivan, one son, Michael Dunivan (Deborah) of Linwood, KS, two daughters, Lisa Foster (Tony) of Linwood, KS, and Donna Henley (Billy Jr.) of Tonganoxie, KS. Grandchildren include Danielle Rocha (Shawn), Vance Allred (Heather), Quintin Foster, Ashley Thompson (Zach), Cody Henley and Wyatt Henley. Great-grandchildren, Kaleb Gonzales, Cade Crady, Kaylene Gonzales, Kayleigh Chronister and Nikkole Allred.
After high school, Charles attended college at Pittsburg State, majoring in Industrial Arts and graduating in 1960. He was inducted into the United States Army on September 26, 1960 and was trained as a cook, stationed at the Oakland Personnel Center in Oakland, CA. In March of 1961, he transferred to the Controller section as a Graphic Illustrator and draftsman. He served in the capacity of assistant to the Supervisor of the training section. He was awarded 2 medals for sharpshooting. He also attended the USATC ENGR. He completed his service as SP4 E4 (T) when he transferred to the USAR on June 29, 1962. Charles was honorably discharged from the USAR as SP5, E5 on January 13, 1965 and completed his service with the military on September 25, 1966. While in the special services, Charles was an Assistant Craft Director, teaching photography, woodworking and upholstery.
While serving, Charles met Barbara (Schmidt) and the two were united in marriage on July 28, 1962.
Charles worked for Swift and Company as route salesman and merchandiser from 1963 to 1968. He was a substitute teacher for the shop classes at Linwood and Bonner Springs High Schools, he worked for CertainTeed Fiberglass, and he retired from American National Insurance after many years of service.
Charles loved teaching children and enjoyed farming, photography, traveling, going to auctions and the development and improvement of machinery. He collected old clocks, kerosene lanterns and liked to watch the Kansas City Chiefs.
He will be missed greatly by his family, friends and colleagues.
A celebration of life will be held June 3rd from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Harrington Family Event Center, 214 Oak St, Bonner Springs, KS, next to the funeral home.
