Kevin Colon

Jul 16, 2024

Kevin Wade Colon, age 39, of Yates Center, Kansas passed away on July 13, 2024, the result of a tragic accident while working on Monday, July 8, 2024 .

Kevin was born in Leavenworth, Kansas to John Colon and Michele Lynn (Koch) Colon. He attended school at Tonganoxie, graduating with the class of 2002. He enjoyed playing soccer while growing up and spending countless hours at the pool where he mastered many tricks off the diving board. Kevin was an eternal kid at heart and in some of his deeds. Later in life many kids were drawn to him, whether he was showing off his headstand skills or demonstrating what he learned in his years of being a pool rat. Kevin married Chanel Weide on August 15, 2007, in Leavenworth, Kansas. They first made their home in Eudora, Kansas where they were blessed with the first of their two sons, Cameron, in 2008. They then lived in Gardner for many years, with Karter, being born in 2012. In October of 2022, they moved to Yates Center, Kansas where Kevin put in his blood sweat and tears making into their “forever” home.

Kevin’s dedication to his family, friends, and his work knew no bounds. He had worked as a pipe laborer since 2016. Many of Kevin’s coworkers and his Twitter Nation spoke of his role in their lives as a mentor to many of them. One small example of his dedication was continuing to work in the Kansas City area after they moved to Yates Center. Kevin’s commute was nearly two hours one way, and he did it without hesitation. Despite the commute he still managed to accomplish whatever needed to be done after he got home. He was often the first to volunteer to help build a fence or fix someone’s brakes. His willingness to help a stranger was demonstrated many times with a roadside assist, even against the caution of Chanel. To know Kevin meant that you knew of his love/obsession with the Kansas City Chiefs and Dale Earnhardt Jr., to “experience” how proud he was of his bodily functions and to know a true animal lover, and especially his ability to find the perfect time for his wildly inappropriate streak to appear.

He was preceded in death by his father, John, on May 23, 2018, and his best friend, Timothy “Timmy” Schonoff, on December 29, 2010.

Kevin is survived by his pride and joy, Chanel, Cameron and Karter, of the home; mother Michele Koch and fiance, Philip Tolbert of Leavenworth, Kansas; bonus mom, Mary Ward and husband, Dennis Visocsky, Jr.; siblings, Jason Colon of Leavenworth, Chris Colon and fiance, Ashley Ho of Tonganoxie, Nicole Colon, of Leavenworth, Kayla Ortiz of Kansas City, Missouri, and Cody Ward of Leavenworth.

Even in death Kevin and his giving nature will live on as he was an organ and tissue donor. Kevin was passionate about being a donor after seeing the impact on others following the death of his father and his gift of donation.

Services for Kevin will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 19, 2024 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Hwy 54, Iola, Kansas 66749. Everyone who is able to attend the services are encouraged to wear their Chiefs gear as Kevin would love it. Kevin’s family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday evening at the funeral home in Iola. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kevin Colon Children’s Education Fund and left in care of the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
