William B. Heard

William B Heard, Sr., passed away on February 15, 2024. Bill lived in Oskaloosa KS, for the last 30 years. During that time, while mostly retired, he also worked for Jefferson County Road and Bridge Department. Bill was a resident of Tonganoxie, KS for many years, previously, and served Tonganoxie very well as Fire Chief and City Superintendent. He owned Heard Construction, a heavy equipment contractor, based out of Tonganoxie after retiring from the City.

He was married to J Carol Hamm Heard on December 24, 1960, who preceded him in death, in 2013.

Survivors include two sons, William (Darla) Heard Jr. and Rodney (Darlene) Heard, Grandchildren Bryant Heard, Christopher Calovich, Jami Tickles and Katie Jo Coates, and numerous great grandchildren. As well as sister in laws, Brenda Latham, Jean Jewell and Ann Davis.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dad’s companion over the last two years, Joan Pentlin – and her grandson Brandon. The last few weeks would have been very difficult without these two.

He was born in the Chilhowee, Missouri area, on August 2, 1942. The son of Roxie Golf and Presley Heard. Living in the Chilhowee/Warsaw/Windsor, Missouri area, he was a Police Officer, a Dairy Farmer, a heavy equipment operator (building more ponds and lakes than you can imagine) and of course, an old cowboy.

Cremation is planned, private services at a later date.
