Born on December 16, 1927, in York, Pennsylvania, Laura was one of nine children born to Addison and Minnie Landis. At just 16 years old, she bravely embarked on a journey by train to the Kansas City area to visit family, a decision that shaped the rest of her life. She soon started a family, married William G. McCannon in 1957 and raised five children: Carole, David, Michael, Deborah, and Sheri.
Laura was predeceased by her parents; six brothers; one sister; her husband, William McCannon (2008); her daughter, Carole Humphrey (2011); her grandson, Jeff Mader (2019); and her great-granddaughter, Kylee Jo Mader (2012).
She is survived by her loving children: David McCannon and his wife Leisa of Covington, Georgia; Michael McCannon and his wife Carol of Atlanta, Georgia; Deborah Mader of Basehor, Kansas; and Sheri Elam and her husband Barry of Lenexa, Kansas. She also leaves behind her sister Hilda Ray and her husband Bob of Waxhaw, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Basehor United Methodist Church, in care of Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Laura’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
