Dora I. “Susie” Parmer
Dora I. “Susie” Parmer, 88, of Tonganoxie, passed away on November 8, 2025. She was born July 23, 1937, in Washburn, IL, to Joseph and Irene Siegrist, and moved to Tonganoxie at age 8. She graduated from Tonganoxie High School.
She married E.M. “Okie” Parmer on May 17, 1957. He served as a Leavenworth County deputy sheriff until his death in the line of duty in 1960.
Susie worked at Standard Oil and City National Bank before beginning her 33-year tenure as Leavenworth County Register of Deeds. First elected in 1966, she served 13 terms and was widely respected across party lines. She was active in the Women’s Democratic Club, attended several national conventions, and served two terms as president of the Kansas Register of Deeds Association. She was appointed by Gov. John Carlin to chair the Kansas Real Estate Committee.
A lifelong member of Tonganoxie United Methodist Church, Susie served in many roles and traveled to Guatemala on a mission trip after retirement. She was a longtime member of Chapter A.T. P.E.O., Order of Eastern Star #82, the Tonganoxie Historical Society and the Saturday Club. In 2015, she was inducted into the USD 464 Education Foundation Hall of Fame.
Susie was known for her cooking–especially her pies–which were often featured in local cookbooks and fundraisers. She enjoyed bridge, 5Ks with the Stranger Bottoms team, KU basketball, the Kansas City Chiefs, and time with her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.M. Parmer; her parents; brothers Warren and Larry Siegrist; and sister Paula Heagy. She is survived by her children, David (Carolyn) Parmer of Cedar Hill, MO, and Dina (Jeff) Platon of Allen, TX; grandchildren Chase (Lisa), Patrick (Jennifer), Andrew (Samaris) Platon, and Katherine Parmer; great-grandson Luke Platon; sister Karen Sirridge; sisters-in-law Joan Siegrist and Carol Siegrist; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The visitation is December 13, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at The United Methodist Church of Tonganoxie with the memorial service following at 11:00 a.m.
