Ethan Welsh celebrates a double last week against Eudora.

Tonganoxie High baseball entered this week’s regionals accomplishing a feat for the second straight season: a league title.

The Chieftains won the title outright in 2022 and shared it with Spring Hill and Ottawa this year. Tonganoxie defeated Eudora, 5-1, on Senior Night this past week. That helped THS move to 5-2 in league play, which was the same conference record as Ottawa and Spring Hill.

THS is the No. 9 seed in the Class 4A East Bracket this year. The Chieftains finished the regular season at 12-8 and faced No. 8 Wamego (11-7) on Tuesday at Rock Creek near Manhattan. The game took place after The Mirror’s print deadline. The winner of that game faced the winner of No. 1 Rock Creek (19-1) and No. 16 Coffeyville (6-12) later Tuesday.
