Tonganoxie High boys and girls basketball teams open the season Dec. 3 with jamboree exhibition games at Chieftain Arena. The girls scrimmaged against Lansing, and Oskaloosa, while the boys met Lansing and Wellsville. Teams played five-minute quarters, with the fourth quarter being a running clock in certain instances.

The Tonganoxie boys team held its own into the second quarter, but Louisburg went on a run before halftime and didn’t look back.

The Wildcats, led, 18-13, after a quarter, and 24-22 with 6:06 left before halftime. But the Chieftains wouldn’t get any closer than that. LHS built a 32-22 lead and eventually amassed 23 points total in the second quarter. The Wildcats were up, 41-25, at intermission and the Chieftains just couldn’t carve into that deficit. Louisburg would go on to win, 79-50, and hand Tonganoxie its first loss of the RC Simmons era.

THS played Bonner Springs on Tuesday at home after The Mirror’s print edition. More on the game can be found online at tonganoxiemirror.com. Next up for THS is a road game Friday at Jefferson County North.
