Tonganoxie High boys golf nabs 3rd at opening meet
The Tonganoxie High boys golf team opened the season Monday with a third-place finish at the Royal Valley Invitational.
THS battled strong winds on its way to a third-place finish at Firekeeper Golf Course near Mayetta. Tonganoxie finished 12 shots behind tournament champion Silver Lake and two shots runner-up Santa Fe Trail.
Tonganoxie’s Colton Brusven led the team with an 83 and a fifth-place finish.
Lachlan McRae took eighth with an 86, while the two other counting scores were from Gavin Reischman (93) and Zac Fisher (94).
The other two participants were Josiah Weatherford and William Dohrn.
This year’s Royal Valley tournament also increased from five to 10 teams. Other squads competing were Rossville, Horton, Eudora, Oskaloosa Bonner Springs, Maur Hill Mount Academy and Royal Valley.
Tonganoxie gets back in action Thursday with a tournament at Sunflower Hills.
