Tonganoxie baseball rallies, but then falls to Spring Hill in extras

Tonganoxie High baseball faces Spring Hill on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.

Late-inning heroics by Tonganoxie forced extra innings Thursday, but the THS baseball team fell behind in the eighth inning and couldn’t answer again.

Spring Hill won, 7-5, against Tonganoxie at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.

The Broncos built a 3-0 lead early, but the Chieftains cut into the lead in the fourth and made it 3-2.

It was 5-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but Tonganoxie managed to score 3 runs in its half of the inning and tied up the game.

Spring Hill had the bases loaded with one out, but THS got a strikeout and then a grounder to shortstop and ended the inning.

THS threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t connect for a walk-off win.

The Broncos scored in the top of the eight and held on for the 7-5 victory. Spring Hill improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Frontier League play, while THS dropped to 4-3 and 0-2.

Next up for THS is a road game Friday against Blue Valley Southwest (1-2).
