Schooler wins gold for Tonganoxie track at big Wichita meet

Adalyn Schooler brought home gold at the Shocker Pre-State Challenge last week in Wichita.

Schooler won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 1.75 inches.

She also placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 112 feet, 0.5 inches.

The meet attracted more than 100 schools to Wichita.

In the 400, Kara Johnson and Brooke Nihart competed in the 400. Johnson placed 23rd (1 minute, 9.64 seconds) and Nihart 27th (1:12.54). In the 800, Johnson placed 16th (2:36.99) and Nihart 33rd (2:49.58). Johnson also placed 10th in the 1,600 (5:48.31), while Nihart placed 21st (6:12.95).

And in the shot put, Finley Rieke finished 11th (30-2.25).

All of the finishes were in the 4A-6A division aside from Schooler, who competed in the discus in the Elite Elite division.

On the boys side, the 4×800 meter relay team of Jack Reischman, Jett Gilmore, Parker Welsh and Solomon Carter placed fourth with a time of 8:23.

Tucker McGuire placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 147-6.5, while Carter placed ninth in the 800 (2:14.62) and the 1,600 (4:29.19). Parker welsh was right behind in 10th (4:29.53) in the 1,600.

In the 4A-6A division, Gilmore placed 12th (53.6) and Welsh 18th (54.73) in the 400, while Solomon Carter (1:59.65) placed ninth and Reischman (2:14.62) placed 26th in the 800. Reischman also placed 29th in the 1,600 (5:16.63).

In the discus, Tucker McGuire placed sixth (147-6.5).

Gilmore placed 15th in the 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 7:09.71.

THS shines at Bobcat Relays

The THS High girls nabbed a handful gold medals Friday at the Bobcat Relays in Basehor.

Tonganoxie’s Reece Schmidt placed first in the high jump (5-4), while Ashlyn Brune won gold in the long jump (16-8.5). Keagan Merry also won gold in the pole vault (10-0).

In the 100, THS had three team members place: Schmidt in third (12.92), Khrisalyn Wright in fourth (13.35) and Ashlyn Brune sixth (13.56).

In the 200, there also were three placers: Schmidt (second, 27.28), Brune (fourth, 28.28) and Khrisalyn Wright (fifth, 28.39).

Adalyn Harder joined Schmidt in placing in the high jump (fourth, 4-8). In the long jump, Murry (sixth, 15.05) also placed alongside Brune.

In the discus, Aubrey Padfield placed third (87 feet, 10 inches) and Adlen Johnson seventh (80-10).

Johnson also scored points for THS with a fourth-place finish in the javelin (81-8) and a fourth-place finish in the shot put (30-9).

On the boys side, Tonganoxie earned 10 medals.

Todd Brown placed fourth (11.21) and Kendall Smith sixth (11.52) in the 100 meters, while Brown placed fourth in the 200 (23.35) and Smith eighth in the 200 (23.85). In the 800

Elijah Holthaus placed fifth in the 110 meter hurdles (18.27).

The 4×100 team placed fourth with a time of 44.24.

In the long jump, Holthaus placed fifth (19-11) and Owen Schmidt sixth (19-10.5), while in the triple jump Schmidt placed third with a leap of 40-6.

And in the shot put, Brayden Seymour placed fifth with a throw of 40-5.75 and Kendall Smith seventh (40-1).

Next up for THS is the Tonganoxie Invitational at 3:30 p.m. today at Beatty Field. Some team members also will be competing Friday and Saturday at the Kansas Relays.
