Carter signs with Dakota State for cross country, track

Tonganoxie High senior Solomon Carter signed a national letter of intent recently to run cross country and track at Dakota State University.

Carter placed in the Top 25 at state three different years for the Chieftains, including ninth place as a junior.

Dakota State is an NAIA school in Madison, S.D.

In cross country, he was first-team All-Frontier League in 2022 and 2023 and second-team all-league in 2024 and a state medalist in 2023 (ninth) when the team placed third at state. He’s also been academic all-state in 2023 and 2024.

In track, he’s been a five-time state medalist, placed eighth in the 800 and eighth in the 1,600 in 2024, seventh in the 4×400 relay and second in the 4×800 relay in both 2023 and 2024.

He’s a National Merit Finalist and earned a near-perfect 35 on his ACT. He also competed at the state level in Science Olympiad, earning fourth place in state Debate and lead his team to a Scholars Bowl Frontier League Championship. He’s also an Eagle Scout.
