Tonganoxie High girls wrestling looks to defend state title

Tonganoxie High girls wrestling team members celebrate winning the Class 4A state title Saturday at Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina. The squad became the first THS girls program to win a state team title. Previous team champions: the boys wrestling team won in 2022 and the THS boys cross country team in 1991.Tonganoxie High girls wrestling is the defending Class 4A state champions and will begin its title defense when the season opens at 5 p.m. today with a dual at Bonner Springs.
The THS boys wrestling squad also opens the season with a 5 p.m. dual at Bonner Springs. The Chieftains are coming off a sixth-place finish at state at the end of the 2024-25 season.
The boys team then has the Gardner-Edgerton Invitational at 9 a.m. Dec. 6 at GEHS, while THS girls wrestling starts at 10 a.m. that day at the Spring Hill Invitational.
Tonganoxie girls wrestling also has a two-day tournament Dec. 12-13 at Great Bend and then the KC Stampede Dec. 18-20.
Both teams open the regular season a week from Friday with home games against Louisburg at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Chieftain Arena. New this year for THS basketball teams: the Garden City Tournament on Dec. 11-13.
Tonganoxie boys and girls basketball teams open the season this Friday at home against Louisburg.
The Louisburg boys went 3-17 last aseason, while the LHS girls went 4-16.
The THS boys squad went 5-16 last season, while the THS girls team went 9-11.
Boys swimming opens the year Dec. 11 at the Hayden Invitational at the Capitol Federal Natatorium at Capitol Federal Natatorium in Topeka.
