Tonganoxie girls basketball routs Louisburg in opener

THS would go on to get its first victory of the season with a 47-14 decision against Louisburg at Chieftain Arena.
Alyssa Schoeneck opened scoring for THS with a two-pointer and three-pointer. She finished the game with 13 points. Teammate Addy Schooler led all scorers with 14. Included in that point total was a 2-for-2 effort from beyond the three-point arc.
Overall, THS went 7-for-18 from three-point land. Jaela Hererra went 3-for-6, Kalea Baldock 1-for-3 and Schoeneck 1-for-3.
Point totals for the rest of Tonganoxie’s scorers were Herrera with 9, Adlen Johnson with 6, Baldock with 3 and Ashyn Brune with 2.
Louisburg had a 6-0 run at one point during the game, but Tonganoxie put together a 28-3 run of its own as it pulled away from LHS.
Tonganoxie shot about 33% from the field overall (16-for-48) and was 8-for-15 from the free-throw line (53%)
Louisburg shot 6-for-38 from the field (16%) and was 1-for-4 from the free-throw line.
The Wildcats actually outrebounded the Chieftains, 38-29, but THS also outscored Lousiburg in points off turnovers, 16-3.
Next up for Tonganoxie is its first trip to the Garden City Roundball Classic. THS, now 1-0, will take on Scott City at 6 p.m. Thursday at Scott City and then play at Garden City the next night. Tournament games conclude Saturday.
