Tonganoxie wrestling teams win opening duals, start tourney slates

The Tonganoxie High girls wrestling team won its first dual of the season Wednesday at Bonner Springs.

THS, the defending Class 4A state champions, defeated Bonner Springs, 46-36. Riley Crookham won at 100 by forfeit, as did Eliza Troyer-Partridge at 105.

Kenzie Underwood won in the 110 match after defeating Inali Meyer of Bonner Springs by major decision, 16-7. Kaylee Pankey won at 115 with a pin of Bonner’s Mckenzie Mwatuka in the second period (2:45). Savannah Pankey got a forfeit win at 120.

At 125, Tonganoxie’s Autumn Wilson defeated Brooklyn McCormick of Bonner Springs by fall in the second period (3:30).

Bonner Springs got its first points at 130 when Crystal Lopez defeated Tonganoxie’s Emerson Maslak by fall in the third period (5:20). Sophia Zepps snagged 6 more points for Bonner after she defeated Tonganoxie’s Veda Alvarez in the second period (3:37) at 135.

Tonganoxie’s Lexi Logan won by forfeit at 140, as did Josie Owens at 145.

Bonner’s Addison Vogel defeated Tonganoxie’s Olivia Butler in the first period (1:37) at 150.

BSHS finished out the dual with three straight victories: Hayleigh Palcher won by forfeit at 170, Braelyn Morris won by forfeit at 190 and Amelia Patterson won the 235 bout with a pin of Tonganoxie’s Katy Duncan with just one second left in regulation.

THS boys complete sweep of Bonner

Tonganoxie High boys wrestling is off to a 1-0 dual start after getting by Bonner Springs, 39-34, Wednesday.

Rowdey Starcher got things started with a pin of Bonner’s Wyatt Hillie in the first period (1:05). BSHS then got a forfeit victory in the 113 bout before Hunter Pankey won for THS in the 120 match. Pankey defeated James Daniels by fall with a pin in the third period (5:09).

Casen McAlister defeated Lucas Vogel by fall in the first period (1:53).

Beau Underwood opened the season 1-0 with a 1-0 decision against Bonner Springs’ Devastating Brown at 132, while Silas McCloy defeated Bonner’s Sebastian Lackey by pin less than a minute into the 138 match (0:54).

At 144, Bonner’s James Williams earned a 7-2 decision against Tonganoxie’s Mason Benedict, but Tonganoxie scored again in the next bout when Blake Riedel got the quick pin (0:15) against Bonner Springs’ Bryan Esparza at 150.

Clayton Crookham opened the season with a pin of Bonner’s Ramon Aguilar (1:09) at 175, while Bonner Springs’ Kayne Smith pinned Tonganoxie’s Tyson King (3:30) at 190. Bonner Springs then made the dual closer by getting forfeit wins at 215 (Luka Tomasic) and 285 (Josh Chelossi).
