Tonganoxie High girls basketball players celebrate defeating Garden City in overtime in the Roundball Classic semifinals Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, in Garden City.The Tonganoxie High girls basketball team made a splash in its first trip to the Roundball Classic in Garden City.
THS knocked off Scott City and then defeated a ranked Garden City team in the semifinals before almost bringing home the team trophy Saturday. Facing Frontier League foe Ottawa, Tonganoxie played a nail-biter, but the Cyclones eventually were able to hold off the Chieftains, 60-55. Tonganoxie moved to 3-1 on the season after finishing as tournament runner-up.
THS played Tuesday at Spring Hill after The Mirror’s print deadline.
THS takes out Beavers
Alyssa Schoeneck scored a game-high 32 points as the Tonganoxie High girls basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the Garden City Roundball Classic on Thursday in Scott City.
THS outscored Scott City in every quarter but the third — when both teams scored 14 — and the Chieftains improved to 2-0. The Beavers, meanwhile, dropped to 0-2.
Addy Schooler also was in double figures for THS with 13.
Tonganoxie outlasts Garden City
Tonganoxie advanced to the Roundball Classic after knocking off a Class 6A state-ranked team in overtime.
THS defeated host school, Garden City, 54-51, after an extra period Friday at GCHS.
The Chieftains handed the Buffaloes their first loss of the season (4-1).
Chieftain boys get 1st win during tourney
The Tonganoxie High boys basketball team dropped a couple of tough losses in the first two rounds of the Garden City Roundball Classic, but the squad bounced back with an 85-71 victory Saturday against Lakin in the seventh-place game.
