McLouth wrestlers compete at Holton

The McLouth High girls wrestling team placed 14th out of 26 teams Saturday at the Gerald Sadowski Tournament in Holton, while the boys team placed 18th out of 22.
The MHS girls scored 33 points at the meet. Shawnee Heights won the team crown with 214, well ahead of Holton (148) and Rock Creek (139), which placed second and third, respectively.
Makinley Daniels (8-2) placed second in the 130-pound division. Also competing were Charlee Nehl (2-7) at 125 and Lily Perkins (9-5) at 145. Nehl went 1-2 and Perkins 3-2 at the tourney.
Shawnee Heights also won the boys title with 188.5, though it was a much tighter race.
Spring Hill placed second with 177 and Chapman third with 156.5. Holton was right behind in fourth with 154.5.
Justin Patz (11-1) placed second at 150, while Carter Coit (8-6) placed eighth at 138.
Next up is the St. Marys Mixer on Thursday and the Atchison Tournament on Saturday.
The Northeast Kansas League girls tournament is 4 p.m. Feb. 6 at Atchison County High School in Effingham.
The NEKL boys tourney will be Feb. 13 in Effingham.
MHS girls 6th at MIT
McLouth girls basketball is 1-6 in Northeast Kansas League play and 2-10 overall on the season. The squad went 1-2 at last week’s McLouth Invitational.
MHS lost, 40-20, to Northeast Kansas Homeschool and then defeated Pleasant Ridge, 47-43.
Maranatha defeated McLouth, 45-31, in the fifth-place game.
MHS boys winless at home invitational
The MHS boys team is 1-6 and 2-9 around the midpoint of the season. The Bulldogs lost to Horton, 74-41, and Maur Hill, 84-50, at its home tournament.
McLouth teams are back in action Friday at home against Pleasant Ridge and Tuesday at Oskaloosa.
