The Toronto Blue Jays have signed THS alum Mason Davenport, according to a social media post Tuesday on the X page of the Cotuit Kettleers, a summer collegiate baseball team in Cotuit, Massachusetts. Davenport had been playing for the Kettleers, a team that plays in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
After his standout career at Tonganoxie, Davenport played at Kansas City Kansas Community College. He then went on to play at the NCAA Division I level with Stetson this season as a junior.
Davenport, who has one year of college eligibility left, went 1-4 with a 7.30 ERA for the Hatters this past season.
He appeared in 16 games, six of which he started. He had 44 strikeouts on the season for a team that went 41-22 on the season and advanced to the NCAA Baseball Tournament where it defeated North Carolina State before falling to No. 4 Auburn and then losing a rematch with NC State in the Auburn Regional.
While at KCKCC, Davenport owned a 13-6 record with the Blue Devils and made 24 starts in 32 appearances, three of which were complete games.
He also struck out 144 batters in two seasons over 131 innings.
While at THS, he was a two-time all-state first-team selection and was a member of the 2022 THS Class 4A state runner-up squad.
That season marked the highest finish in THS baseball history.
He is the older brother of current Chieftain Merek Davenport.
