Tonganoxie High girls soccer lands 7 players on all-league team

Tonganoxie High sophomore Natalie Loving controls the ball Monday during a Class 4-1A regional seminfinal against Maranatha Christian Academy at Beatty Field. THS won the match, 9-2, as Loving set new school records for most goals in a game (6) and a season (19).

Tonganoxie High girls soccer grabbed seven spots on this year’s all-Frontier League team. Natalie Loving and Miley Maxwell were first team all-league, while Macie Murray, Baylie Igleheart, Kayla Thornton, Lilli Sanders and Jaylynn Sparks were honorable mention selections.

THS went 9-8-1 on the season and finished as regional runner-up. Tonganoxie defeated Maranatha Christian Academy in the regional semifinals and then lost, 2-1 (3-1 on penalty kicks), in the regional championship at Kansas City Christian. KCC (15-4) would lose to eventual state champion Bishop Miege, 7-1, in the state quarterfinals. Miege defeated Rose Hill, 2-1, in the semifinals and Hayden in the finals by a 2-1 score in double overtime.

Miege finished the season 16-5.

Washburn Rural (19-2) defeated Mill Valley (17-3-1) by a 1-0 score after a 4-1 advantage in penalty kicks following double overtime in the 6A title match. Bishop Carroll (21-0) capped off an undefeated season after dropping St. James Academy (19-2) by a 2-1 score in the 5A championship match.

Miege has now won nine straight 4-1A state titles.
