Tonganoxie’s Grace Stean signs a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Highland Community College. Stean, who graduated from THS last month, will soon will start classes at HCC and compete for the Scotties in the spring.

Grace Stean won’t be too far away when she continues her softball career at the collegiate level.

The recent Tonganoxie High graduate will be about an 80-minute drive away at Highland Community College.

Stean, who was a pitcher for the THS softball team in the spring, will be playing for HCC next.

Tonganoxie went 18-9 and finished as a Class 4A regional runner-up last month. THS was one victory away from a state berth, but a late offensive burst helped Rock Creek secure a regional title with a 10-6 victory against Tonganoxie.

Stean will join a Highland squad that went 17-26 overall and was 9-13 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play in the spring.

Stean also was a standout on the wrestling team while at THS. She finished prep career as a four-time state qualifier and three-time state placer. She took second as a senior after two years of placing fifth in the state tournament and became the first Tonganoxie girls wrestling team member to hit 100 victories in the winter.
