Tonganoxie baseball goes into extras in back-to-back games

Tonganoxie High School, home of the Chieftains
Tonganoxie went into extra innings in two tournament games last week.
THS baseball went 2-1 in the annual Bonner Springs tournament. Tonganoxie defeated Olathe Northwest (8-12) by a 4-2 score and then got a big victory against Frontier League rival Paola, 7-4, in extra innings. Paola had just one loss entering the game and is now 19-2 on the season after defeating Shawnee Mission Northwest, 8-6.
Tonganoxie played Basehor-Linwood in the final game of the tournament and again went into extra innings. Unfortunately for Tonganoxie, BLHS was able to escape with a 4-3 victory and sweep the regular-season series. The Bobcats also won, 5-2, on April 18 in the first meeting of the season between the schools.
Tonganoxie was 12-8 on the season entering play this week. THS played Ottawa (8-12) at home Tuesday in a Frontier League clash after The Mirror’s print deadline. Tonganoxie also is at home Thursday against Atchison (15-3). The regular season finishes up against the defending Class 4A state champion Rock Creek (16-5).
THS currently is the No. 8 seed in the 4A East Bracket. That would put the Chieftains in a regional at No. 1 Hayden (16-0). Other teams, if regionals started today, would be No. 9 Wamego (9-8) and No. 16 Parsons (3-7).
