Tonganoxie High football got a Week 9 playoff shutout victory against a team it slipped by last season on the road.

THS shut out Fort Scott, 45-0, Friday at Beatty Field and advanced to regionals. Last season, Tonganoxie headed down to Fort Scott and escaped with a 34-28 victory on the road.

This season, Tonganoxie got on the board early.

After forcing the Tigers into a three-and-out on their first possession, Tonganoxie took over around its own 46. On its first play from scrimmage, Tonganoxie scored on a 54-yard yard pass play from Bodee Maslak to Jacob Morenz. Morenz caught the ball around the Fort Scott 40 and bounced off considerable contact at the 30 before getting to the THS sideline and scampering in for the first score with 10:45 left in the first quarter.

In total, six different Chieftains scored against the Tigers.

Morenz would have the lone touchdown through the air.

Brady Martin, Blake Riedel and Silas McCloy each had rushing touchdowns, while Maslak notched two against Fort Scott.

Hunter Nihart also went 64 yards for a kickoff return touchdown at the start of the second half.

Maslak had 201 yards through the air, with Morenz leading the receiving corps with 88 yards on the night.

Kipton Harder had 68, Landen Ruff 25 and Martin 20.

Maslak led all rushers with 59, while Riedel had 53 and Martin 20. McCloy added 11 yards on the ground.

Morenz’s TD was the lone score in the first quarter, but would add on plenty more scores through the night.

Cody Lobb went 4-for-6 on extra points, with his first two tries were blocked.

Tonganoxie now moves on to regionals with a matchup with Bishop Miege. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Friday at Beatty Field.
