Miege ends Tonganoxie football season in regionals

Tonganoxie High football was within striking distance at halftime Friday in a Class 4A regional game against Bishop Miege, but the Stags broke out in the second half on their way to a 30-6 playoff victory.
THS was down early, 7-0, but the Chieftain defense held steady later in the first half when the Stags missed a long field goal. Tonganoxie had a special teams miscue that helped Miege to a safety, but Tonganoxie would eventually get a touchdown. A bobbled punt forced Tonganoxie to surrender the ball in its own end zone for the safety, but Tonganoxie did get on the board itself. THS allowed two touchdowns, the point-after kicks and the safety and only trailed, 16-6, at halftime. The Chieftains couldn’t cut into the lead in the second half and would go on to finish the season at 5-5.
Bishop Miege improved to 5-5 and advanced to sectionals this Friday at Eudora (9-1).
