Thaddeus Hileman goes after the ball during a match against Louisburg on Oct. 9, 2025, at Beatty Field. Hileman scored the winning goal Tuesday, Oct. 14 against Basehor-Linwood in overtime.

Tonganoxie and Basehor-Linwood needed overtime to decide their boys soccer match Tuesday, but THS found the goal on a bang-bang play with less than a minute to go in the first overtime and won its third straight match in the process.

With 47 seconds left in overtime, Jameson Breitzman kicked a lengthy pass to Carter Watson, who took a shot on goal, but the Basehor-Linwood goalie stopped it. As the ball rolled around near the net, Thaddeus Hileman was right there to knock in the chip shot and push the Chieftains to a 2-1 victory. The victory moved the Chieftains to 6-5-2 on the year, while the Bobcats fell to 3-9-1.

Tonganoxie scored first with 10:15 left in the first half. Jaxon Albert connected for the goal following a Cody Lobb assist. Basehor-Linwood responded with 5:37 left in the half on Cameron Donn’s goal. The teams played to a scoreless second half before Tonganoxie got the golden goal after more than 9 minutes of overtime play.

THS has now won three in a row and five of its last seven matches.

Tonganoxie visits Paola (2-10) on Thursday. The regular season wraps up next week with a Tuesday home match against Maur Hill-Mount Academy (6-3) and then the regular-season finale two days later on Oct. 23 against Seaman (6-7) at Beatty Field.

Tonganoxie was the No. 8 seed in the Class 4-1A East Regional Bracket as of Wednesday.
