Tonganoxie High’s Van Middlesworth takes 42nd at state golf
The Tonganoxie USD 464 school board approved girls golf as the district's newest high school offering. The team's inaugural season is this fall, with THS boys golf coach Doug Sandburg also leading the girls team.
The Tonganoxie High junior, making her second state appearance, finished 42nd out of 89 golfers on Day 1 and finished in the same spot after advancing to the finals for Day 2 on Oct. 21.
Van Middlesworth finished the first 18 holes with a 97 and improved on her score in the second round with a 94. Wamego’s Addison Douglass joined a special club by winning her fourth state individual title. The senior finished with a 145, scoring a 77 on Day 1 and a 68 on Day 2. She finished seven strokes ahead of runner-up My Nieces from Concordia.
Wamego also won the team title with a 658. Wellington took second with a 698 and McPherson third with a 701. The Red Raiders won their first state title since 2022. Wamego also won the title in 2021 and was runner-up in 2023. The squad was back as a full team after failing to qualify as a team last year.
Frontier League representative Baldwin finished fourth this season with a 708.
