Tonganoxie boys soccer notches shutout victory against Maranatha, drops tough match to Lansing
Tonganoxie High boys soccer had opportunities to score in the second half Thursday in the home opener against Lansing, but the Lions eventually escaped with a 1-0 victory.
LHS scored in the first half, but Tonganoxie created some opportunities in the second half, including a penalty kick midway through the half and a final free kick as time expired. But the Lansing goalie blocked the penalty kick and the late kick sailed just over the LHS net.
The loss dropped THS to 1-2 on the season. Tonganoxie got its first victory of the year Tuesday when THS blanked Maranatha, 3-0, on the road.
The Chieftains continue the season Tuesday with the Frontier League opener against Spring Hill at Beatty Field. THS has another league contest two days later on Sept. 11 at Eudora.
