Tonganoxie held on in a classic clash with Louisburg on Friday, only this time it was the Chieftains prevailing in another down-to-the-wire tilt.

THS won, 20-14, at Beatty Field, as Tonganoxie halted a potential winning drive late in the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats marched deep into Chieftain territory, but Tonganoxie’s Jack Reischman came up with a big interception at the THS 13-yard-line with 55 seconds left in the game. Tonganoxie would eventually run out the clock and get a Frontier League victory against a rival the Chieftains hadn’t defeated since 2020. It also marked the fourth game in the last five meetings that the game was decided by 6 points or less.

THS improves to 1-0 on the season, while Louisburg fell to 0-1. Next up for Tonganoxie is this coming Friday at Spring Hill. The Broncos prevailed at home Friday in their own Frontier League contest. SHHS defeated Bonner Springs, 47-7.
