Tonganoxie’s Brietzman achieves hat trick as Chieftain boys soccer ends scoring drought

Tonganoxie High boys soccer entered Thursday’s home match against Ottawa in the middle of a scoring drought.

THS hadn’t scored a goal since Sept. 2 when THS blanked Maranatha Christian Academy in the second match of the season. Tonganoxie played four games since then heading into Thursday’s Frontier League battle with Ottawa.

The Chieftains made up for the drought against the Cyclones.

THS won, 4-0, on a night that included a hat trick from senior Jameson Breitzman. Tonganoxie scored first with about 15 minutes left before halftime and wouldn’t look back in the second half.

Breitzman got his second goal about 10 minutes into the second half after an assist from Cody Lobb then got a penalty kick for a goal roughly 18 minutes into the second half. Breitzman got his hat-trick-clinching goal with exactly 6 minutes left in the match.

The ball was placed on the sideline and Breitzman bypassed the assist and shot directly at the net.

Goal No. 3 curved and sailed above the Ottawa goalie.

The victory moved THS to 2-3-2 overall and 1-2-2 in Frontier League play.

Tonganoxie faced Hayden on Tuesday in a makeup game in Topeka originally scheduled for the previous Tuesday, but postponed due to inclement weather.

Hayden entered the match with an 0-9 record. The match took place after The Mirror’s print deadline.

THS next is in action Thursday at Bonner Springs (4-2-2 and 2-2-1) and then on the road again this coming Tuesday against Bishop Miege (8-1) in Roeland Park.
