Tonganoxie girls soccer blanks Lansing, now 4-0 on the season

Tonganoxie senior Grace Weatherford moves the ball Thursday against Lansing at Beatty Field. Weatherford scored one goal in the 5-0 vivtory.The Tonganoxie High girls soccer team put Thursday’s match against Lansing out of reach in the second half and spread the offensive wealth in the process.
THS led, 2-0, at halftime and then scored three more times in the second half for a 5-0 victory. Tonganoxie had five different Chieftains score in the win that kept THS undefeated in the early going at 4-0.
Molly Vought scored first for THS with 5:54 left before halftime and then Grace Weatherford found the net less than a minute later (4:57).
Paityn Van Middlesworth made it 3-0 early in the second half (37:25) and then Natalie Loving (15:13) and Marissa Dick (15:13) scored the Chieftains’ final goal against the Lions.
THS goalie Lauren Breuer got her third shutout in a row with Thursday’s victory.
Tonganoxie coach Jon Orndorff said his team found its footing in the second half.
At the beginning of the match we played well and then were booting ball around and not playing our style. In the second half we started moving the ball around and looked a lot better, which led to three goals.
Thursday’s non conference match came two days after Tonganoxie blanked Leavenworth, 1-0, on the road.
Tonganoxie won that match on a Loving penalty kick.
Orndorff said the Chieftains should have tacked on more goals against the Pioneers. The young team is continuing to get acclimated to the team’s system. The THS coach said it normally takes six matches for teams to get in the groove of a new system. THS is now at four and counting.
Tonganoxie will be on the road for its next three matches: April 9 at Maranatha, April 10 at Chanute and April 14 at Louisburg.
