Tonganoxie High girls basketball team members celebrate Alyssa Schoeneck and her 1,000-point career milestone after the team’s victory Jan. 30 at Turner.

Alyssa Schoeneck has hit a milestone in her decorated career at Tonganoxie High.

The THS senior notched 1,000 points in her basketball career during a game Jan. 30 at Turner.

The four-year starter, who plans to play at the college level at Tabor, was a first-team all-Frontier League selection as a junior, as well as a second-team all-state selection.

Tonganoxie girls currently No. 11 seed

The THS girls basketball team was the No. 11 seed in the Class 4A East Bracket heading into play this week.

THS was 11-7 entering play this week. The current No. 6 seed is Santa Fe Trail (14-4), so if the postseason started today, that would be Tonganoxie’s first-round opponent. That would mean substate site would be Independence, as the Bulldogs are the No. 3 seed at 13-2. Labette County (6-11) is the No. 14 seed and would also be in the substate.

Tonganoxie will look to snap a two-game losing streak. THS looked to have a big rematch with Eudora, but the Cardinals won, 64-40, last week at EHS.

The Chieftains then had a rematch with Bonner Springs, but BSHS prevailed, 63-53, at Bonner.

THS was at Louisburg (6-11) on Tuesday after The Mirror’s print deadline and will be at Fort Scott (10-4) on Friday before playing next Tuesday at Baldwin (6-11).

The Chieftains finish up at home against Paola (3-14) on Feb. 20 and Ottawa on Feb. 24 (14-4).

Wamego is the No. 1 seed on the girls side currently. The Red Raiders are 16-2 on the season.

THS boys working toward playoff berth

The Tonganoxie boys were the No. 17 seed in the 4A East Bracket heading into this week.

THS was at Louisburg (4-13) on Tuesday and is at Fort Scott (8-6) on Friday.

The team is coming off back-to-back losses to Eudora and Bonner Springs. THS lost a heartbreaker to Eudora, 54-53, and then fell to Bonner Springs 80-28. BSHS is undefeated on the season.
