Tonganoxie boys wrestling drops Mid-Buchanan on Senior Night, now eyes big weekend at 4A regional in Holton

Tonganoxie High boys wrestling finished up the regular season with a special Senior Night on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Chieftain Arena.

THS faced Mid-Buchanan out of Faucett, Missouri in a dual clash. The Chieftain seniors went 5-0 against the Dragons as Tonganoxie went on to win, 48-22.

Clayton Crookham, Dax Duffett, Brady Martin, Brodie Starcher and Beau Underwood all won in their final home matches in Tonganoxie uniforms.

Brett Delich’s squad now will direct its attention toward this weekend’s regional tournament at Holton.

The meet begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Holton High gymnasium. Other teams at the regional are Atchison, Baldwin, Bishop Miege, Bishop Ward, Eudora, Hayden, Hiawatha, Holton, Jeff West, Nemaha Central, Ottawa, Perry-Lecompton, Rock Creek, Santa Fe Trail, Wamego and Wellsville.

Tonganoxie is ranked No. 3 in the latest Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association 4A team rankings. Wamego, at No. 6, is the only other Top 10 squad at the regional. Fellow Frontier League member Paola, ranked No. 4, will host another regional, as will Beloit and Winfield.

Tonganoxie has six wrestlers currently ranked in 4A: No. 2 Brodie Starcher at 113, No. 4 Hunter Pankey at 120, No. 3 Casen McAlister at 126, No. 3 Dax Duffett at 144, No. 2 Clayton Crookham at 157 and No. 1 Brady Martin at 165. Martin also is ranked No. 3 across all regionals. The Top 4 in each weight class at regionals advance to state.
