Tonganoxie boys wrestling takes regional

Tonganoxie High boys wrestling team members celebrate a regional title Saturday in Holton. The THS boys and girls teams will compete at the state championships Friday and Saturday at Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.

The Tonganoxie High boys wrestling team dominated its Class 4A regional Saturday in Holton. THS has nine wrestlers in the finals and a tenth in the consolation semifinals. The Chieftains are in first place with 230.5 points, while Wamego placed second with 168.5 and Santa Fe Trail third with 126.5.

Overall, the Chieftains are sending 10 to state, as seven won regional titles, two placed second and another took fourth.

Regional champs: B. Starcher (113), Pankey (120), McAlister (126), Chrisp (132), Duffett (144), Crookham (157) and Martin (165). Runners-up: R. Starcher (106) and Underwood (138). Fourth place: Wilson (150).

Both the boys and girls teams will compete Friday and Saturday at the 4A state championships at Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina.
