World Cup base-camp teams arriving in area as hoopla around big event grows

The World Cup buzz continues as teams with base camps have started to arrive in the area.

The Algerian team arrived in Lawrence over the weekend, while The Netherlands squad arrived in Kansas City early Tuesday afternoon.

Argentina, which also has a base camp in the KC metro area, arrived last week. England is the fourth team assigned a base camp in Kansas City and is set to arrive Saturday.

Argentina is training at Compass Minerals National Performance Center in Kansas City, Kansas, England is at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri, The Netherlands is at the KC Current training facility in Riverside, Missouri, and Algeria is at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence.

Several matches will take place at Kansas City Stadium (GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium).

Argentina will take on Algeria at 8 p.m. Tuesday, while Ecuador will take on Curacao at 7 p.m. June 20. Tunisia will meet The Netherlands at 6 p.m. June 25 and Algeria will take on Austria at 9 p.m. June 27.

Round of 32 matches will be 8:30 p.m. July 3 and 8 p.m. July 11 and a World Cup quarterfinal match will be 8 p.m. July 11.
