Tonganoxie High basketball
The Tonganoxie boys basketball team needed another win to earn a substate seed, but fell to Ottawa in the regular-season finale, 67-43, on Feb. 24 at Chieftain Arena.
The team finished the season as the No. 17 team in the East Bracket with a 5-18 mark. Louisburg also was 5-18, but got the final spot as the No. 16 seed due to the marginal points tiebreaker. Louisburg was at -6.21, while THS was at -6.91.
Tonganoxie trailed, 16-9, after the first quarter and just couldn’t recover against the Cyclones. Ottawa led, 27-11, at halftime and never looked back. Tonganoxie actually outscored Ottawa, 32-30, in the second half, but just couldn’t overcome the first-half deficit.
Nolan McGuire finished his Tonganoxie career with a team-high 16 points. Luke McRae had 8, Luke Breuer 5 and Owen Seba and Bodee Maslak 4 each. Lachlan McRae and Kipton Harder each had 3.
As on the girls side, Rock Creek is the No. 1 seed in the 4A East Bracket. The Mustangs are a perfect 23-0 entering the postseason. They host Louisburg at 6 p.m. today at RCHS.
