Ashlyn Brune competes at the Frontier League meet in Paola earlier this season. Brune is competing at state in multiple events.Tonganoxie will have several student-athletes making their way later this week to Wichita for the state track and field championships.
Among those qualifiers is Adalyn Schooler, who will try to defend her state discuss title from a year ago when she competes later this week at University Stadium (formerly Cessna Stadium) on the Wichita State campus.
Schooler won the discus title at the Eudora Regional on Thursday at EHS with a throw of 144 feet, 5 inches. That was the best throw among Class 4A regionals, so she will be the No. 1 seed at state. Schooler also qualified in the high jump and the shot put. She’s the No. 11 seed in the high jump and will be joined in the shot put put by Sophia Heithaus and Adlen Johnson. All three were among the 18 to qualify in the event. All events have gone to 18 state qualifiers from 16. Schooler enters state as the No. 5 seed, while Heithaus is the No. 7 and Johnson the No. 9.
Keagan Murry, who finished second in pole vault at regionals, punched her ticket to state with the performance and will be the No. 8 seed at state.
Ashlyn Brune is the final girls qualifier for the Chieftains. She is the No. 10 seed in triple jump and No. 15 seed in long jump. She placed second in both events at Eudora.
On the boys side,
Roman Holthaus will lead the way with three individual evens. He took second in the high jump and 110 meter hurdles and third in the 300-meter hurdles.
The THS 4×800 team placed fifth at regionals, which helped them qualify for state. The relay team will be the No. 11 seed in 4A later this week.
Also headed to state is Brayden Seymour, who finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 9.75 inches at EHS. He will be the No. 12 seed at state.
