Tonganoxie football pastes Paola, 48-14

Five different Chieftains scored Friday in a 48-14 rout of Frontier League foe Paola at Beatty Field.

Tonganoxie didn’t show any let-up a week after shutting out defending conference champion Eudora on the road.

THS scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and another three in the second and had a 42-7 lead heading into halftime. The Chieftains used a balanced attack with 263 yards in the air and 200 on the ground.

Bodee Maslak, making his first appearance of the season after an early injury, scored two rushing touchdowns. Blake Riedel and Joel Merei each had a rushing TD.

Kip Harder had two receiving touchdowns and Roman Holthaus one.

Hudson Myers had his best game so far this season statistically with 263 passing yards and three touchdowns. He was 13-for-18 passing the ball.

Riedel led rushers with 119 on 15 carries, while Paxton Summers had 37 yards on seven carries and Merei 28 yards on three carries. Maslak added 16 yards on eight carries.

Roman Holthaus and Harder were a 1-2 punch in the air game. Roman had 125 yards on five receptions, while Harder had 111 on six receptions. Eli Holthaus had one reception for 16 yards.

Defensively, Marco Stephen and Jack Reischman each grabbed an interception from the Paola offense.

Merei led Tonganoxie in the tackle department with 17 total tackles, 16 of which were assisted and one was solo. Owen Robbins had 14 (two solo), Roman Brown 11 (all assisted), Harder 10 (one solo) and Reischman eight (two solo). Eli Holthaus had six (all assisted) and Riedel five (all assisted). Stephen had three (all assisted) and Summers and Hayden Overmiller each had two (all were assisted). Cooper DaGrava also had two (one solo). Hunter Pankey and Landen Ruff each had one (both solo). Ayden Gibson and Roman Holthaus each had an assisted tackle.Thaddeus Hileman went 6-for-7 on PATs on the night.

Tonganoxie moved to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in Frontier League play. Paola fell to 2-2 and 1-2. THS now will make a trip west to take on Rock Creek for the first time in program history. The Mustangs are 2-2 on the year and coming off a 45-7 victory against Abilene.

Tonganoxie has cracked the Top 5 in the latest Kpreps rankings.

THS is No. 5 in Class 4A. Bishop Miege (4-0) is No. 1, St. Thomas Aquinas (2-2) is No. 2 and Great Bend (4-0) is No. 3. Fellow Frontier League member Louisburg, which handed Tonganoxie its only loss of the season so far, is 4-0.
