Tonganoxie High volleyball opened the Ginny Reischman era Tuesday at Atchison.

Reischman has been a longtime assistant at the middle and high school levels in Tonganoxie. The team’s home opener is Thursday against Turner. Varsity is set to start around 6:30 p.m. The first Frontier League match of the season is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Paola and then the squad is on the road again for a match Sept. 10 at Osawatomie for another 6:30 p.m. start.

Tonganoxie’s firs tournament of the season will be Sept. 12 at the Nemaha Central Invitational in Seneca.

The field includes defending Class 1A Division II champion Hanover and 4A foe Rock Creek, which is ranked No. 9 in the preseason Kansas Volleyball Association rankings. Hanover is No. 2 in 1A D-II.

Other teams at the tournament are Nemaha Central, Maranatha, Northeast Kansas Homeschool, Sabetha, Atchison, Hiawatha and Marysville. Pool play starts at 9 a.m. that day.

THS girls golf

Doug Sandburg’s girls golf squad opened the season Tuesday at Ottawa. Other teams there were Anderson County, Basehor-Linwood, Bonner Springs, Eudora, Osage City, Santa Fe Trail and Wellsville. The meet took place after The Mirror’s print deadline.
