THS defeated Atchison in two sets and also defeated Northeast Kansas Homeschool, but fell to Marysville in three sets and eventual tourney champion Nemaha Central in two sets. THS defeated NEK, 25-14, 25-16. Marysville won the match, 19-25, 25-19, 25-14, while Nemaha Central won, 25-21, 25-13.

The squad is now 4-4 on the season. Earlier last week, THS lost to Poala and Osawatomie on the road after starting the season 2-0.

THS coach Ginny Reischman said Adlen Johnson suffered a knee injury at tractice last week and the team has been adjusting with new rotations and different positions on the court.

“Anytime you make those kinds of changes, there is an adjustment period,” Reischman said. “And we certainly experienced that in our match against Paola and we were also missing our starting outside hitter Reece Schmidt (she was sick) for our match against Osawatomie.

“Those were two matches where we felt we should have been more competitive, but the changes and adjustments proved difficult for us.”

Fast forward to Saturday and Tonganoxie made some strides, according to Reischman.

“The girls responded well on Saturday and showed some of the potential we know this team ha,” Reischman said. “Ashlyn Brune and Addy Schooler both had outstanding days offensively. “Addy was also a force defensively, putting up several big blocks for us out of the middle. Our freshman setters, Avery Brune and Anna Roe, were thrown into a new rotation and handled the challenge extremely well. Karsyn Platt and freshman Lexi Brady also gave us some great defensive play and helped keep us competitive.”

Tonganoxie was at Baldwin on Tuesday for a triangular against BHS and Emporia and then will be back home Thursday for a triangular against Jeff West and Santa Fe Trail. The matches Tuesday took place after The Mirror’s print deadline.

THS also will be home this coming Monday to take on Mill Valley and Manhattan and then on the road again the next day at Ottawa.
