Tonganoxie girls win home cross country invite; Nihart nabs individual title

Tonganoxie’s Brook Nihart competes Saturday at the Tonganoxie Invitational at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds. Nihart won the individual title and the girls team won the team title.The Tonganoxie High girls team won its home invitational Saturday at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.
THS scored 23 points, with Turner taking second with 53 and Bishop Seabury third with 54.
Brooke Nihart and Adrianna Trumble went 1-2 for Tonganoxie. Nihart nabbed the individual title with a time of 23 minutes, 3.3 seconds, while Trumble finished in a time of 23:45.44.
Bobbi Vaughn finished sixth (24:28.76) and Abbu Burkhart was eighth (24:41.76).
The THS boys team finished second in its race with 49 points. Burlington won the meet with 20 points. Turner finished third with 62.
Carter Welsh led Tonganoxie runners with a time of 18:36.05 and a second-place finish. Also in the Top 10 were Elijah Weatherford (19:53.28) in seventh and Chamberlain Albert (20:10.78) in ninth.
Next up for Tonganoxie is the Rim Rock Invitational at Rim Rock Farm between Lawrence and McLouth. Races begin at 8 a.m.
