Principal Chief of Wyandot Nation to speak Tuesday at TCHS
The Tonganoxie Community Historical Society will host Judith Yunghans Manthe for a program on Lyda Burton Conley and the Strength of the Wyandot Women.
The event will be 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Reno Methodist Church on the Tonganoxie Community Historic Site campus, 201 W. Washington St.
Yunghans is Principal Chief of the Wyandot Nation of Kansas.
She has devoted her life to teaching others of the Wyandot history and her heritage. Lyda Conley and her sisters fought to save the Huron Cemetery in Kansas City, Kan. In 1910, she was the third woman and the first Native American to argue a case before the Supreme Court of the United States.
The historical society offers its Fourth Tuesday programs on the fourth Tuesday of the month throughout much of the year.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. with a brief business meeting followed by the historical program.
All are welcome for this free program. Refreshments will be served after the program.
