Tonganoxie USD 464 approves funding for Tonganoxie Elementary School classroom moves
Tonganoxie USD 464 school board members approved funding for a summer move of classrooms at Tonganoxie Elementary School during a special meeting Monday.
The move will cover moving company, supplies, maintenance repair of walls and teacher pay as part of the move, which is being done to better streamline various grades and shared resources across those grades in the two-level school.
The board approved the project for not more than $23,000. That includes a low bid from Johnson Commercial Solutions for $9,900. That accounts for $7,600 in labor and $2,300 in materials (boxes, speedpacks and labels).
First-grade classrooms will move to current second-grade classrooms, second grade to fourth, third grade to first and fourth grade to third grade.
The measure passed unanimously, with Karen Bottary, Jim Bothwell and Stephanie Shupe absent. Shupe was present at the start of the meeting, but had to leave before the vote was taken.
Board members also discussed with building administrators and other central office administrators and staff about potential projects in the coming years and potential priority projects. Board members will discuss projects further at future meetings. More on those discussions will be covered in future editions of The Mirror.
The district also will be replacing fencing at Beatty Field following recent storms that had wind gusts of 50 mph. Wind moved a high jump pit at the stadium into the fence, causing the damage. There also was limited damage on a protective covering on the THS roof. Insurance will cover those repairs. The board discussed looking at options for increased securing of the high jump pit in the future in the event of additional weather.
