KU professor to discuss city, county level governments at TCHS event
This month’s Tonganoxie Community Historical Society Fourth Tuesday program will focus on city and county government and how they function.
TCHS will welcome Hannes Zacharias for his program “City and County Governments in Kansas: What Do They Do and How Are They Financed.”
This program, which starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, will explore how Kansas counties differ from cities, what each does and how they are financed. The presentation will cover issues such as budgets, taxation, planning, zoning, economic development and public health.
Zacharias has more than 35 years of experience in city and county government including serving as city manager of Hays, as well as Boonville, Mo., and as Deputy County Manager and County Manager for Johnson County. He is the Robert A. Kipp Professor of Practice in the School of Public Administration at the University of Kansas.
Tuesday’s program will run from 7-8:30 p.m. at the TCHS museum site, 201 W. Washington St. The event begins with a brief business meeting followed by the historical program. This program is sponsored by Humanities Kansas.
All are welcome for the free program. Refreshments will be served following the Zacharias’ presentation.
