Tonganoxie High boys wrestling 2nd in state overall as 3 seniors win titles
Tonganoxie High is state runner-up for 2024 in boys wrestling and set a school record along the way.
THS finished the three-day Class 4A state championships with 127 points. Frontier League rival Paola had been neck-and-neck with Tonganoxie and eventually finished eight points behind at 119.
Rose Hill won its first state championship Saturday in boys wrestling with a commanding 157.5 points.
Tonganoxie, meanwhile, set a school record for individual state champions in one season with three. A trio of seniors, Braeden Moore won the 144-pound title, while Noah Bailey won gold at 150 and Tyler Pankey at 215.
The previous high for most state titles in a season was two.
Moore also became Tonganoxie’s first two-time state champion since Connor Searcy, who did so in 2019 and 2020.
The Chieftains won six medals overall: freshman Tyler Chrisp finished fifth at 106, sophomore Brady Martin placed third at 165 and senior Colton Brusven took fifth at 190.
