The Tonganoxie school district will be celebrating the start of the 2025-26 school year with its annual community tailgate Friday on the THS campus.

The event begins with the THS volleyball scrimmage at 4:30 p.m. inside Chieftain Arena.

Starting at 5:15 p.m., hot dogs will be served at Beatty Field. After that, there will be a slew of introductions as the THS football team has its scrimmage/practice at Beatty Field.

The THS band will perform at 5:30 p.m., while the THS and Tonganoxie Middle School football teams will be introduced at 5:40 p.m. First State Bank and Trust will then present a check to the district at 5:43 p.m. The money comes from donations through the Chieftain Card.

THS and TMS volleyball teams will be announced at 5:50 p.m. and then it’s the unified bowling team’s turn to take to the THS track for recognition. All of those introductions will take place during the football scrimmage.

The 2024-25 Tonganoxie Elementary School students of the month will be announced at 6 p.m.

At 6:08 p.m., the TMS and THS cheer squads will perform.

The THS boys soccer team will take the field at 6:15 p.m. for its scrimmage and then several more teams will be recognized after that.

THS girls golf team members will walk out on the track at 6:20 p.m. before the TMS and THS cross country teams do so at 6:25 p.m.

There will be recognition at 6:30 p.m. for the THS trap shoot team before the THS dance team performs at 6:35 p.m.

The final announcement will take place at 6:40 p.m. when the 2024-25 THS girls wrestling state champion team will be recognized for the squad’s first state team title in program history.
