Tonganoxie honoring Memorial Day with Monday events

Memorial Day events again will take place in Tonganoxie.
The seventh annual Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast will be 7:30-9:30 a.m. Monday at the Tonganoxie Community Historical Society and Museum, 210 W. Washington St.
To kick off the event, VFW Post 9271, American Legion Post 41 and Boy Scout Troop 357 will conduct a flag ceremony at 7:30 a.m.
All proceeds from the free-will donation event will go toward the historical society. The museum will be open so that visitors can see the new exhibit “Kansas Stories of the Vietnam War: The Tonganoxie Edition.”
Later in the day, Tonganoxie American Legion Post 41 will be hosting a Memorial Day ceremony at Maple Grove Cemetery south of Tonganoxie.
The ceremony will be 1 p.m. Monday at the cemetery. The general public is invited to attend and sit in the shade during the event Guest speaker for the ceremony will be state Rep. Lance Neelly, R-Tonganoxie. Neelly represents the 42nd District.
VFW members also will be placing flags around town in honor of Memorial Day. The large flag at VFW Park also will fly at half-staff until noon Monday.
