Officers seize 30 pounds of marijuana early Dec. 30 during a traffic stop along U.S. Highway 24-40 in Tonganoxie.

Tonganoxie police discovered roughly 30 pounds of marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags during a traffic stop this past week.

An officer was on a routine patrol just before 2 a.m. Dec. 30 near Smiley Road and U.S. Highway 24-40 when the officer noticed a vehicle traveling northeast on U.S. 24-40 at high speeds, according to information from Chief Greg Lawson.

Police later stopped the vehicle and searched it due to probable cause, according to Lawson. The driver was from Colorado.

A Colorado driver was contacted and later, the officer conducted a search of the vehicle base upon probable cause that a crime took place. The officer located approximately 30 lbs. of green vegetation in vacuum sealed bags.
