The 68th annual Tonganoxie Invitational Basketball Tournament is getting a slight makeover due to the anticipated winter storm that is expected to impact a large portion of the country.

The tourney originally was scheduled as a three-day tournament starting today, but it now will be condensed into a two-day tournament.

Liberal was scheduled to play in both the boys and girls tournaments, but the school, which is in the southwest corner of the state, backed out due to the expected inclement weather. THS activities director Josey Eastes reached out to area schools to find replacements for Liberal in the brackets. Legacy Prep will take Liberal’s spot on the boys side, but the girls bracket now will feature seven teams instead of eight. Olathe East will get a bye in the first round of the girls tournament, as OEHS was set to play Liberal in the quarterfinals.

The girls bracket will feature several ranked teams. Piper and St. James Academy are No. 5 and 6, respectively in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll in 5A. Eudora is ranked No. 8 in 4A.

On the boys side, Atchison is ranked No. 2 in 4A.

Here’s a look at seedings and the tournament slate. Seedings include current records, as seeding took place before some games were played.

Games with a “CA” after them denote Chieftain Arena, while games an “AG” denote Auxiliary Gymnasium.
